Sound quality on vent is much better for me, the voices are much more clear and recognizable than on TS (where voices sound like neil armstrong reporting from the moon). The lag on vent is slightly worse than that on TS, though.

LOL! That's a good description of what it sounds like.

I'm curious, though... I've seen other say they use "good codecs" with TS, what codecs do you guys use when you get clear sound? We tried all the codecs supplied with TS (free version), and they were either 'bad' or 'worse' with regards to sound quality... Are there other codecs available?

I wouldn't mind being able to replace the resource-hog Skype, and like I said Vent-server completely refuses to run on my machine since I got dualcore, so TS with a better codec would be nice.

Vent FTW running GSM Codec 4.8kb/s I get no lag spikes whatsoever from the server or on my computer. TS sounds like AM radio

Regards

Would you suggest hosting a TS, vent, or other on a seperate machine to the one you game on?

My only experiance of TS was during my "Eve Online" days when my corp leader ran a server.

If running on a seperate box would be beneficial... culd the benefits still be reaped whilst routing through the same connection as the one your gameing on... i assume so, but thought id check.

TS is alot easier to use no doubt. If you know how to set it up there's nothing wrong with hearing someone. If you do, you can get pretty much perfect hearing. The people that are saying voice quality is poor are obviously people that have no idea what they are doing.
